Horizon Educational is excited to announce that the 2023/2024 California Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP) season powered by Toyota Mirai has launched. Action-packed hydrogen racing will take place throughout the spring, culminating in a thrilling State Final on April 13th 2024. The winners of this final will then head to Anaheim for the H2GP World Final, scheduled to take place in September.

"We are thrilled to welcome back Toyota Mirai as the presenting partner of the H2GP California region” said Max Accordino, Head of Bussiness Development at Horizon Educational. “Toyota Mirai shares our vision of a cleaner and greener future. Together, we will inspire the next generation of innovators and engineers who will shape the world with hydrogen.”

The California edition of the hydrogen racing series is sponsored by Toyota Mirai, the world's first mass-produced Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle and a benchmark for innovation across the industry. Through the generous support of Toyota, the next generation of California’s designers and engineers are provided with the skills they need to lead the state into a sustainable future. The happens through the hands-on, real-world experience of working with hydrogen fuel cells and 1:10-scale electric vehicles.

The 2023/24 California season takes place as part of the global H2GP competition, the largest hydrogen competition in the world currently engaging over 4000 students in 4 continents. The students are challenged to design, engineer and construct 1:10-scale hydrogen powered cars themselves, before putting these cars to the test in a series of international ‘endurance races’.

“Horizon’s Hydrogen Grand Prix was a unique and incredibly valuable experience”, said Elena from Waldorf School Orange County. “Not only did I learn more than I thought I would about the engineering, electronics, and design that goes into building these cars, but I also walked away with skills that I could apply not just in the renewable energy industry but to solving problems and working in collaboration with others more generally. Knowing that hydrogen fuel cells can have great impacts on a sustainable future is incredibly exciting, and I am so grateful that this program allowed me to work with and learn about these technologies hands-on as a high school student.”
